Overview

M.Sc. Speech Language Pathology or Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology is a postgraduate Speech Therapy course. Speech-language pathology is concerned with normal and disordered human communication and swallowing. Students are prepared to assume varied professional responsibilities including the assessment, treatment, and management of speech, voice, language, and swallowing disorders. Course works and clinical internships are integrated and sequenced. The duration of the course is two years and its syllabus is divided into four semesters and it is also career orienting in nature.

  • Some therapists work in hospitals, some work in community health centers; some are involved in domiciliary work, connected to a school, or work in specialist centers.
  • Students are also trained to identify the research needs and plan research that would help in upgrading the diagnostic, rehabilitative and research programs in the country.
  • The Course is beneficial to provide professional training for speech-language pathologists, encompassing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential to the field and to educate the public as to support which can be provided to persons with speech, language and learning disabilities.
  • They can work as speech and language therapists with adults and children with a range of communication and swallowing problems; these include children with speech and language disorders, people with physical disabilities, children with a cleft palate, clients who have had strokes or head injuries, cancer patients or people with progressive diseases, clients with voice disorders or those who stammer, people with severe learning difficulties and those with specific learning difficulties.
